For Attendo, the goal was to make internal control a natural part of the business. By digitalising self-assessment together with Stratsys, Attendo created a more connected way of working. At the same time, the organisation laid the foundation for greater transparency and a more data-driven approach.

Attendo is the leading care company in the Nordic region, with 35,000 employees and operations in hundreds of municipalities. The company operates within health and social care, where quality and trust are fundamental to the business.

This is an organisation where internal control is subject to high demands. For Attendo, internal control is not just about audits. It is about ensuring that critical processes work in practice, every day.

Excel files and heavy administration

Christopher Eidberg works with developing and digitalising internal control and governance at Attendo. He saw an opportunity to improve how internal control was managed.

The process became both time-consuming and difficult to oversee.

Self-assessment was still based on Excel. Controls, spot checks and documentation were managed in separate files and shared folders. In a large organisation with many users, the process became both time-consuming and, at times, difficult to oversee, says Christopher.

A simple way of working that creates value

For Christopher, the challenge was not only to digitalise an existing process. The goal was to create a way of working that felt easy to use and added value to the business.

Digitalising self-assessment

Attendo saw that many of the challenges could be solved by digitalising the self-assessment process. Together with Stratsys, they began building a shared system support for internal control, based on the principle that what already worked should be preserved.

In the Stratsys platform, Attendo was able to bring self-assessment, documentation and follow-up together in one place. Automated workflows and reminders were built in to simplify the process.

Attendo also focused on clarifying roles and responsibilities. Process owners, reviewers and the internal control function gained a shared workspace where documentation, comments and supporting material could be managed in a structured way.

With Stratsys, self-assessment, documentation and follow-up could be brought together in the same system, while responsibilities became clearer. Identified deviations could be turned into concrete action plans with clear ownership and follow-up, says Christopher.

Better overview and greater transparency

The new way of working gave Attendo a better overview of both status and responsibilities. Historical data and documentation were gathered in the system, where process owners and the internal control function could follow the work.

For auditors, it became easier to see who was responsible for what, and to access supporting material and follow-up. As a result, manual administration was reduced and collaboration between different functions became easier, says Christopher.

Internal control that works in practice

By bringing control data, documentation and history together, Attendo created better conditions for follow-up and analysis. The result was audit-ready internal control, where information could also be used to develop the business.

Internal control that works in practice.

The aim was to make internal control a natural part of everyday operations. By connecting information, responsibilities and follow-up, Attendo has made it easier to work systematically and use internal control to improve the business. In this way, Attendo has gained internal control that works in practice.
