There are many settings that control whether a user can add a node to a view. This article will help you go through the most common reasons.
The reason can be either individual settings or a combination of settings - therefore, check all possible causes in order!
1) The setting to add nodes is not enabled for the column
2) The unit group is not allowed to add nodes to the column
3) The view is filtered on underlying units
4) There are no columns to link to that are visible in the view
5) The node property "Name" is missing
1) The setting to add nodes is not enabled for the column.
To be able to add nodes to a column, the checkbox "Enable the ability to add new objects" must be checked.
Here's how: Go to the view's Advanced settings, select Column settings and then enable the ability to add objects for the column in question. Save the settings.
2) The unit group is not allowed to add nodes to the column.
Through connection rules for a Scorecard column and Department groups, you can control which units in the organizational tree are allowed to add nodes to a specific column.
If the problem applies to a specific unit/units, check that they are in the correct unit groups - this is sometimes overlooked when new units are added.
Here's how: Make sure that the department group the department belongs to is allowed to make the connection between the wanted column int the Scorecard column administration:
3) The view is filtered on underlying units
If the view is filtered on more departments levels, it might turn off the possibility to add nodes. Subsequent filtering is displayed in the view's name and in the filter funnel.
Here's how: Temporarily change the filtering via the filter funnel, or update the default filter if you want to make the change permanent.
4) There are no visible columns to connect to in the view
In order to add nodes, at least one column that the node can be connected to must be visible in the view, unless connections to the Vision node is allowed.
Here's how: Filter out one or more columns that can be linked to the current column.
Temporarily change the filtering via the filter funnel, or update the default filter if you want to make the change permanent.
5) The node property "Name" is missing
To be able to add nodes to the column, the node property "Name" must exist for the column.
Here's how: Add the property to the column if it is missing.
6) The view is in build mode
In the view settings, you can choose not to display "Add" buttons by default.
Here's how: When you want to add new nodes, you must first click on "Open build mode" next to the filter funnel.
7) The user lacks permission
If the user lacks permission to create nodes, the "Add" button will not be displayed.
Here's how: Check the user's permission group and ensure that they have the "Create" permission for the desired control model column.
